Arabs say that when the Muslim conqueror came to Hebron, the city was deserted by its inhabitants. Because with the increase of riots and wars between the Muslims and the Christians in the land of Judah, the hardships of the inhabitants of Hebron increased, until they all fled the city.
And here the Muslim army arrived in Hebron. When a flood of water reached the city limits, the minister of the army began to search for the place of the Cave of the Patriarchs. First he came to the place of "Abraham's tent", he saw great ruins there and a burning light. He thought that there was the Cave of the Patriarchs, and he ordered his officials to build tall and storied buildings, as appropriate for such a place.
The minister continued on his way, until he came to the place attributed to the Cave of the Patriarchs nowadays. There were also great ruins there, and a great and bright light was burning there. And this light was more abundant and brighter than the light that emanated from "Abraham's Tent". He said to his officers: I am assured that we were wrong at first, and there is no doubt that in this place is the Cave of the Patriarchs, for here the light is greater and brighter. He ordered to repair the ruins and build the buildings that stand there to this day.
Others say that the minister of the army did not see lights from the land, but the stars of the sky above. First he saw a shining star in the sky from above, opposite the place "Uhel Avraham", and then he saw a big and shiny star above the buildings of the Cave of the Patriarchs today. And according to the last star, greater than the first, he determined to build the mosque dedicated to Abraham our father, in the place known to this day.
