Hundreds of years ago there lived in Hebron a Jewish goldsmith named Yehuda, and Yehuda was a goldsmith with gold and silver during the day and recited the 'Zahar' at night, and was known to be observant of the Mitzvot and glorified in the atonements of the eve of Yom Kippur. In every "Gedaliah fast" Judah would set one white hen as an atonement for himself and a white hen for his wife, as well as for all his sons and daughters. This is what Yehuda did from time immemorial.
And it came to pass on this day, that Judah established atonements for the members of his household. And it happened that when the chickens went out to peck in the yard, and the house of Yehuda was not far from the grave of Jesse the father of David, the white rooster entered one of the openings by the tomb of Jesse the father of David and disappeared. They searched for him all that day and did not find him, and the members of Judah's family were mourning, because they said in their hearts: Our father will not spend his sleep in the new year, may God have mercy.
And in the Moslem Mosque, which is on the Cave of the Patriarchs, the faithful gathered, as is their custom every morning, for the morning prayer. They are still standing in their prayer, and here their ears hear the call of a rooster rising from the depths of the Cave of the Patriarchs. The worshipers were startled by the sound of the rooster and said: The Jewish fathers are waking up from their slumber...
The rumor spread through the streets of Hebron and the Jewish community reached it. The Jews heard and said: The hour of desire has come and the end of our exile has come... The city was still like a concoction, and behold, a white rooster jumped out of the cave and stood among the Muslim believers. One of the Arabs recognized him as Yehuda's chicken, they took it and brought it to Yehuda, and the members of Yehuda's family rejoiced over the "atonement" that had returned to them.
And since then the word has been spoken by everyone, that a forgiveness has been hidden and disappeared, which the eye of man has not seen, passing from the grave of Jesse the father of David to the graves of the ancestors.
