Sarah's mother's burial

Sages said (Tanhuma Chai Sarah): "She plotted a field and took it" (Proverbs 16:16) that while she was still alive Sarah plotted to take the field of Machpelah: 'And took it' - she took the cave of Machpelah and was buried there."

Furthermore, others also coveted this cave but did not get it: "Before Abraham came, many would have asked to be buried there, but the ministering angels would guard the place, and they (the people) saw a fire burning there and could not enter, until Abraham came and bought the place."

"And Sarah died in Kiryat Arba, it is Hebron" (Genesis 23:2).
