According to ancient Jewish traditions, the tomb of Abner Ben-Ner, who was the minister of King Saul's army, is located near the Cave of the Patriarchs. This site is known as a place of prayer and has been revered by many Jews for generations.
The tomb of Avner Ben-Ner is near the western entrance to the Cave of the Patriarchs. The site gate leads to a courtyard with an ancient cistern. Entrance on the left there are several tombstones added by the Arabs, who aspired to be revered, and they built a house over the tombstones.
In the south, at the end of the yard, there is an entrance to a staircase that leads to the cave where Avner's tomb is located and above it is a tombstone covered with a veil.
Avner Ben-Ner was described in the midrash as a man of tremendous physical strength. He was murdered by Yoav ben Zuriya, and was brought to burial in Hebron. The murder shocked King David who regretted it very much.
The family members of the commander of the Hebron Brigade Col. Dror Weinberg the 14th, who fell in Hebron in the battle in the Alley of Valor, felt a great connection to the story of Avner Ben Ner. There are many similarities between the character of Avner - a great soldier and scholar who was tragically killed and buried at the foot of the Cave of the Patriarchs, and the character of Dror - a respected officer and fearless fighter, who grew up in the Beit Midrash and fell in battle not far from there. Therefore, the members of the Weinberg family contributed a new parochet to mark the grave, which was dedicated to Dror's memory.
